News at Little Friends

OFSTEDOn Wednesday 15th June we were visited by Jean Thomas of Ofsted. Jean spent the day at the nursery carrying out our inspection. She spoke with staff, children and parents gathering their views of our provision, she spent time observing our practice and reviewed our policies and procedures. Her feedback was very positive; we had hoped to receive an outstanding mark, but unfortunately due to some minor points we just missed out on this and received a good. However, the report we received is excellent and we are very proud of it. If you have not already seen it there is a copy on the parents’ notice board and you can also view it online at www.ofsted.gov.uk19th June CelebrationsAlthough it now seems like a long time ago we would like to express our thanks for all the help and support that we received for our centenary celebrations and Teddy Bears Picnic on 19th June. It was a very successful afternoon attended by many Little Friends, past and present. Thanks to your kind donations of cakes we raised £90 for the Milk Bank Appeal on our cake stall. The raffle was won by The McGill Family; Jake was very pleased to be pedaling out at the end of the afternoon on his new John Deere tractor!PhotographerOn the morning of Tuesday 21st September there will be a photographer at the nursery to take the children’s photographs. If your child does not normally attend on a Tuesday please feel free to bring him/her along to be photographed.Parent CommitteeThe next quarterly Parent Committee meeting has been arranged for Monday 20th September. If you have not previously attended a committee meeting but would like to get involved please come along to find out a little bit more about what we are doing and share your views. If you have any questions please see Nicky. All parents are welcome.Recipe BookWe have had a number of requests over the years to produce a book of Little Friends recipes. We are currently in the process of collating the children’s favourite recipes and putting them together in a book which will be available to buy for a small price. If your family has a favourite recipe you would like to share please pass it to Nicky. Thank you.ICANLast year Little Friends achieved an ICAN Accreditation in recognition of the efforts made by everyone at the nursery in promoting children’s communication skills. We have recently been reassessed and are proud to have retained this accreditation.Jeans for GenesWe will again be taking part in this year’s Jeans for Genes Day which is on Friday 1st October. All children and staff are invited to wear their jeans to nursery with the option of making a small donation to the Jeans for Genes appeal.Parent EveningWe are hosting a Parent Evening on Thursday 4th November 2010 between 7 – 9pm. The evening is an opportunity to view the progress that your child is making and to meet staff and other parents. Please be reminded that these evenings are for adults only. If you are unable to attend please see a member of the management team to arrange to meet with your child’s key worker at a mutually convenient time.GraduatesWe have 25 children leaving to begin their formal education in various schools in the area in September. We would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye to them and their families and wish them well for their future. We enjoy catching up from time to time and always welcome visits from past Little Friends.Calendar of EventsWe are currently putting together a calendar of events for the Learning Centre children for September ‘10 – Aug ’11. This will include monthly topics, dates for parent stay and play mornings and dates for events such as the Graduation. When you receive your calendar please ensure that you keep it safe and make a note of the dates. Whilst we endeavor to remind everyone of planned events and activities this can sometimes be difficult.Operation Christmas ChildWe would like to invite parents and children take part in the Operation Christmas Child shoe box appeal. This is a project which collects and distributes shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in disadvantaged situations. If you would like to participate please ask a member of staff for a leaflet which will explain a little bit more about the project and what you can put in your shoebox. The shoeboxes need to be ready for collection by 1st November in order for them to be distributed to children in time for Christmas. |
